vol.43:The Open Data Day in Otsu City in Shiga Prefecture

Last weekend, we took part in the walking tour in Otsu in Shiga prefecture.
In this event, the application “ Ishibumi Meguru!” we produced was used.
 
March 2nd,2019 was an international open data day in the world.
The event was held all over the world and people discussed how they take advantage of the open data.
Otsu city , next city of Kyoto, utilized our application “Ishibumi Meguru!” for tourists exploring around Otsu city to make them familiar with its history.
 

What’s open data day?

Open data is the idea that some data should be freely available to everyone to use and republished as they wish, without restrictions from copyright, parents or other mechanisms of control.
Open Data Day is an annual celebration of open data all over the world.
People create local events on the day where they will use open data in their communities. It is an opportunity to show the benefits of open data and encourage the adoption of open data policies in government, business and civil society.
 

Event content

The event was divided into morning afternoon.
The experts explain how they utilize the open data and what the issue is in the morning.
Our representative also told what the “Ishibumi Meguru!” is and how the open data is utilized.

In the afternoon, the participants joined the city tour with the app.
There are some sample walking course in the app, so they chosen the one they like.
The purpose was to look for the stone monuments and take their pictures.
The each stone monument spot has points and participants can get points after taking pictures. * They know how much the points are when they finish.
In the end, those who can take pictures as much as possible within the allotted time would be winner.

Some stone monument really doesn’t stand out, so it was difficult to find out!

“Ishibumi Mugeru!” is originally to explore the stone monuments in Kyoto.
Kyoto has more than 1,000 stone momuments.
