In January 2024, Kyoto Prefectural Botanical Garden has celebrated its 100th anniversary.
When you think of botanical gardens in Kyoto Prefecture, many people probably think of Kyoto Botanical Garden Park.
Do you know that Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture also has a botanical park?
Tapestries depicting the zodiac sign of the year, the dragon, with various flowers are on display at Uji City Botanical Park.
Why not visit Uji City Botanical Gardens for the New Year?

Uji City Botanical Garden

The botanical park of approximately 10 hectares is located to the west of Yamashiro Sports Park(Taiyogaoka).
The varied hilly grounds are home to a variety of ingenious facilities that delight visitors.
There are a variety of facilities on the varied hilly grounds.It entertains visitors.
In particular, the “Flower and Water Tapestry” with a wall fountain and canal (waterway) at its center is the largest three-dimensional flower bed in Japan.
The tapestries consist of approximately 3,675 planters lined up on a 46-tiered platform with a width of 62 meters and a height of 18 meters.
The tapestries depict landscapes related to Uji City and zodiac signs, and those with colorful zodiac signs are said to be especially popular.
You can see the tapestry of this year’s zodiac sign, the Dragon, from December 2023 to around May 2024 (scheduled).

In addition, three specially selected original species of tea trees are on display as a botanical park unique to Uji City, the tea town.
Plants that appear in The Tale of Genji and poem monuments are planted along the garden path.

Various events are held depending on the season, such as the night illumination of the weeping cherry blossoms in spring and the firefly night game in early summer.

Every Monday (the next day if Monday is a holiday), year-end and New Year holidays (December 28th to January 4th)

Access:
(1)Get off at JR Nara Line “Uji Station” or Keihan Electric Railway Uji Line “Keihan Uji Station”, take the Keihan Uji bus 240 or 250 bound for “Kintetsu Okubo” and get off at the “Botanical Garden” stop.
(2)Get off at Okubo Station on the Kintetsu Kyoto Line, then take the Keihan Uji Bus 240 bound for Keihan Uji, or the 250 bound for Uji/Obaku Station, and get off at the Botanical Park stop.
