The mysterious view of autumn leaves, reflected on the desk on the 2nd floor of shoin hall, is especially famous.
You may have seen it once.
Rurikoin Temple was closed to the public until 2015 in order to protect cultural properties.
It has been open seasonally to the public since then.
Rurikoin Temple will be open to the public on specific days(from October 1st to December 10th) in this autumn.

Rurikoin Temple

Rurikoin Temple is located in Yase at the foot of Mt. Hiei.
Legend has it that Emperor Tenmu, injured in the Jinshin War, healed his wounds in the Yase no Kamaburo.
It was loved as a home of peace for many samurai and aristocrats.
There are three types of gardens within Vast grounds measuring 12,000 tsubo.
One of them, the Ruri-no-niwa, is covered with dozens of different types of moss and appears to be glowing green.
The name ‘Rurikoin’ is derived from the garden.
The autumn leaves of the Ruri-no-niwa are reflected on the polished floor and desks on the 2nd floor of shoin hall.
The mystical sight is amazingly beautiful.
It is also called the phantom autumn leaves, because it is difficult to see a similar sight at other famous spots for autumn leaves.
If you place your camera on the desk and take pictures, you can take good pictures of the reflection of the autumn leaves on the desk, so be sure to give it a try.
The best time to see the autumn leaves at Rurikoin Temple is usually from late November to early December.
Other attractions include the Garyu Garden and the tea room, and you can even try your hand at sutra copying.
