Cherry blossom season has come! It’s been warmer and warmer these days. The peak of the cherry blossom in Kyoto is around early April. This time, we’d like to share the information about the good spot to see cherry trees.
平安神宮
Heianjigu Shrine is one of Kyoto’s more popular sights. The shrine buildings are colorful replicas, reduced to a two-thirds scale, of the Imperial Court of the Heian period (794-1185).
The vast garden here, behind the shrine, is a fine place for wonder and particularly lovely during the cherry- blossom season. With its large pond, weeping cherry blossom and Chinese-inspired bridge, the garden is a tribute to the style that was popular in the Heian period. It is well-known for 150 double cherry blossoms.

Okazaki Shrine
It takes about 10 minutes to get to Okazaki shrine from Heian Jingu Shrine. Okazaki Shrine has been a place of worship for more than 1,200 years. Though the shrine grounds are relatively small, there are lots of rabbits to be found. It is symbolized as the fertility and people come to pray to the shrine – the god of matchmaking, marriage, and easy childbirth.
The weeping cherry blossom in front of the main hall is amazing.

Konkaikomyoji Temple
Konkaikomyoji Temple, better known as Kurodani, is a superb and rarely visited (by tourists) temple on Yoshida-Yama Hill, a short walk from the Path of Philosophy or a 1-minute walk from the Okazaki shrine. This shrine is a so-called hidden spot because it’s off the main Northern Higashiyama tourist route. The brilliant cherry blossoms bloom and we’re happy to just see them for a moment and soak the atmosphere.
