vol.73:Three Weekend Events in September 21st to 22nd

Fall has come and it’s been cooler and cooler lately in Kyoto.
The weather forecast says that it’ rainy and cloudy this weekend, so please in your mind to bring your umbrella.

This time, we’ll share about three event held this weekend.
If it rains, the schedule could be changed, so please check it in advance.

Comb Festival/ Kushi Matsuri @ Yasui Konpiragū


This event was done in order to honor the combs and hair ornaments used by women once they were no longer needed rather than simply discard them like trash.
To express gratitude to these items, Yasui Konpiragū hosts its annual Kushi Matsuri every September.
The festival starts at 1 p.m. in the site and donated combs are added to the grave, and a dance “Kurokami”(“Black Hair”) is performed by a dancer dressed as a maiko.
After that, the assembled women walking around the Gion area, showing off the history of Japanese hairstyle as they do.

Seimei Festival@Seimei Shrine


Seimei Shrine where a famous astronomer, Seimei Abe, is worshiped in the center part of Kyoto city.
Seimei Festival is the most important festival for Seimei Shrine itself and locals.
On the first day, Yoimiyasai Festival (Festival-eve) is taken place and Lantern Procession and Yudate Ritual are planned.
On the second day, an annual festival is taken place and a children parade with about 500 people marching in procession around Seimei Shrine.
You can see a traditional icons like decorative float, girls in traditional clothes, and a portable shrine.

Bush Clover Festival / Hagi Matsuri @ Nashinoki Shrine


Kyoto has numerous besutiful gardens all through its different wards.
One of these is a bush clover garden that is located in Nashinoki Shrine, Kyoto.
It is called “Bush Clover Palace” a popular sightseeing place where they bloom in fall.
On September 22nd, the Bush Clover Festival is held here and traditional ritual as well.
