vol.67:Gojo-Zaka Pottery Festival 2019

Gojo-zaka Pottery a festival is one of the popular pottery festival in Japan, with about 350,000 visitors each year.
About 400 stalls selling pottery will line both sides of Gojo Street between Higashioji and Gojo bridge.

At the event, various types of potteries are sold at discounted price by 20%~50% and be able to get a reasonable price.
It is a good chance to talk with a potter and an artist directly, that’s why many people visit every year.

Potters make japanese potteries light and smooth touch, because they hold the dishes or put it up to eat with Japanese etiquette.
Potters also make the edge of dishes smooth because Japanese put it their lips when they are eating or shipping some soup.
They don’t do such a thing when they have in the European style.
If you like Japanese food or interested in tea ceremony, you’ll find an ideal one.

How to enjoy Pottery Festival


The event is held on both side of Gojo-zaka which runs through Gojo street.
Though both sides aren’t different so much, there are more restaurants, convenience stores, and pottery stores based in Kyoto on the left side street when you stand at the Exit 4 of Keihan Kiyomizu Gojo Station.

The event opens from 9:00 to 22:00, so if you visit in a daytime, please be careful the heat illness.

During the night time, the light makes the venue fantastic.
The temperature seems still high but it would be quite better so more people visit around that time.

When you want to get a popular things or good buy, you should visit the first two days.
If you prefer a reasonable one, you should visit the last day.
You could negotiate the price more easily.
