Vol.166:Spiritual places in Miyazu City, in Kyoto by the sea (4)

Hello.
It has been a cold winter so far.
We hope you are staying warm.
This time we would like to introduce Spiritual places in Miyazu City.

Moto Ise Konojinja Shrine

Moto Ise means that shrines or places where the deities of Ise Jingu Shrine in Mie Prefecture were once enshrined.
The shrine legend tells that Toyouke no Okami was originally enshrined at Manaihara (now the site of the external sessha (auxiliary shrine (dedicated to a deity close-related to that of a main shrine)) Okumiya Manai-jinja Shrine) and the shrine was named Yosano Miya.
Amaterasu Oomikami was traveling about the country to look for new habitation, and decided to move to Manaihara because Toyouke no Okami lived there.
After they lived together for four years, Amaterasu Oomikami moved to the inner shrine of Ise Shrine.
About 450 years later Toyouke no Okami moved to the outer shrine of Ise Shrine, for Amaterasu Oomikami invited him to move there.
The Motomiya was transferred to the site of the main shrine (Konojinja shrine) from the site of the auxiliary shrine (Okumiya Manai-jinja Shrine), and the name of the shrine was changed from Yosano Miya to Kono Miya.
Ame no Hoakari no Mikoto is enshrined at Moto Ise Konojinja Shrine as the main enshrined deities.
There are many “Moto Ise” shrines where Amaterasu Oomikami lived all over Japan, but “Moto Ise” shrine where Amaterasu Oomikami and Toyouke no Okami lived together is only Moto Ise Konojinja Shrine in Miyazu city.
You can get a lucky charm named “Musuhimamori” at Moto Ise Konojinja Shrine only when new moon and full moon.
“Musuhi” means the spiritual power of generating and raising everything.
Would you like that you get the lucky charm when you want to give a new challenge?

Okumiya Manai-jinja Shrine

You cross Manai river from Moto Ise Konojinja Shrine and walk uphill, and you can reach Okumiya Manai-jinja Shrine.
There is “Iwakura” that has been enshrined before about 2500 years behind the main sanctuary.
Gods in Japanese myth including Amaterasu Oomikami and Toyouke no Okami are enshrined in Iwakura.
There is the constant flow of the sacred water known as ‘Manai-no-Mizu’ that wells up from within the shrine precinct.
The title of “Manai” is used for the cleanest water.
Shenrons that preside over water are enshrined on the left and right in front of the worship hall.
The shrine legend tells that Ame no murakumo no Mikoto taked the water from the worlds of gods and the shrine name ‘Manai’ derived from the water.
It is believed that various your prayers are heard if you drink the water.
Therefore, many people visit Okumiya Manai-jinja Shrine and draw the water for their good luck.
You can get a charm against evil spirits named “Oomomomamori” at Okumiya Manai-jinja Shrine only when you visit here.
