Museum of the Tale of Genji

“The Tale of Genji” has been handed down for more than 1,000 years and is still widely loved today.
It has been remade into a lot of manga, dramas, and movies, and is the subject of this year’s historical drama.
The Tale of Genji is a love story created by Murasaki Shikibu, who served at court during the Heian period, and consists of 54 chapters.
The hero of the story is Hikaru Genji, who is a playboy in the glamorous social circles of the Heian period.
Hikaru Genji is talented and plays an important role in politics.
In the last ten chapters of the story, the protagonists are Kaoru, son of Hikaru Genji, and his grandson, Saginomiya, and the story revolves around Uji City.
The last ten chapters are called “Uji Jujyo”.

The Tale of Genji Museum in Uji City is also known as a location for popular TV dramas.
The museum, which reopened in the fall of 2018, you can enjoy and learn about the story.
In the newly installed interactive exhibit area, you will experience the glamorous world of the Heian aristocrats.
