Vol.188: 2025 is the year of the Snake! Ootoyo Shrine

There are only a few days left in 2024.
The zodiac sign of 2025 is “the year of the snake”.
The snake is a symbol of rebirth and wisdom in Japanese culture and tradition.
As the snake repeatedly sheds its skin, the Year of the Snake can be seen as a year to start new things and embrace change.
In addition, the year of the snake in the Chinese zodiac symbolizes change, and is said to be a year of challenge and self-improvement.
I would like to introduce Ootoyo Shrine, a shrine related to the snake.

Ootoyo Shrine

Ootoyo Shrine, located along the Philosopher’s Path, is a shrine with a long history that was built during the Heian period.
It is dedicated to Michizane Sugawara, known as the god of learning, and is visited by many people wishing for academic success and success in entrance exams.
One of the highlights of Ootoyo Shrine is the stone statue of a white snake and a black snake called “Komami”.
Snakes are considered sacred creatures, and the white snake in particular is a symbol of wealth and prosperity.
It is said that if you worship this snake statue, you will be blessed with good fortune and longevity.
Furthermore, there are other animal sculptures dotted around the grounds, giving a friendly impression to visitors.
There are also famous temples such as Ginkaku-ji and Nanzen-ji near Otoyo Shrine, and after visiting the shrine, you can enjoy the natural beauty of Kyoto while strolling along the Philosopher’s Path.
Why not enjoy the unique scenery of Kyoto while praying for financial and academic benefits at Ootoyo Shrine?
