vol.120:Summer Illumination Nijo Castle & NAKED

A unique summer event is held at Nijo Castle, a World Heritage Site. The castle offers a projection mapping that projects an image on the wall. It is an outdoor light-up event creating art out of social distancing.

This year’s fireworks festival will be canceled, and a vivid image of fireworks will blow away a sultry summer night.

This event is sponsored by the production committee and the city, which are made by video production company “Naked” (Tokyo). Up until now, Naked and Nijo Castle have held events with teams, and it is a popular event that makes a long line every time. This time, the organizer decided that it was “The city committee allows neighboring people to go sightseeing.” At the event, the staff takes strict measures against infection, such as temperature measurements and limiting the number of visitors.

Distance Lanterns


Participants have a paper lantern that illuminates the ground with a flower pattern, which marks the social distance. Participants can also participate in the production of light with a circle of light while strolling inside the castle.
