{"id":5251,"date":"2025-06-01T09:00:20","date_gmt":"2025-06-01T00:00:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kyonaka-gozan.kyoto\/koi\/?p=5251"},"modified":"2025-05-30T11:05:57","modified_gmt":"2025-05-30T02:05:57","slug":"vol-194","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kyonaka-gozan.kyoto\/koi\/en\/local\/vol-194\/","title":{"rendered":"Vol.194\uff1a&#8221;Early Summer Garden Special Opening&#8221; held at Ryosokuin, a subtemple of Kenninji Temple"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At the beginning of June in Kyoto, the trees become greener and a refreshing breeze begins to blow, creating a pleasant season.<br \/>\nAmong these, one plant to pay particular attention to is the &#8220;hangesho.&#8221;<br \/>\nThe leaves turn white, creating a truly beautiful sight that can only be seen in early summer.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5247\" src=\"https:\/\/kyonaka-gozan.kyoto\/media\/koi\/sites\/10\/202505_1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"466\" \/><br \/>\nWe are pleased to introduce the &#8220;Early Summer Garden Special Opening&#8221; held at Ryosokuin, a small temple within Kenninji Temple in Higashiyama, Kyoto.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">&#8220;Early Summer Garden Special Opening&#8221; held at Ryosokuin, a subtemple of Kenninji Temple<\/h3>\n<p>Kenninji Temple is the oldest Zen temple in Kyoto, founded by Zen master Eisai at the beginning of the Kamakura period (1202).<br \/>\nThere are several halls in the spacious grounds, and the atmosphere is quiet and calm.<br \/>\nYou can also see a replica of Tawaraya Sotatsu&#8217;s &#8220;Wind God and Thunder God&#8221; here.<br \/>\nWithin Kenninji Temple there are several small temples called &#8220;tatchu.&#8221;<br \/>\nA sub-temple is a building that serves as a residence for monks within a larger temple, and today each is an independent temple that is only open to the public on special occasions.<br \/>\nRyosokuin is one of them, a historic sub-temple built during the Muromachi period.<br \/>\nAlthough it is normally closed to the public, you can enjoy special viewing of the garden in spring, early summer, and autumn.<br \/>\nThe garden of Ryosokuin Temple features a Japanese garden called the &#8220;chisen kaiyuushiki teien&#8221; (stroll around a pond), which can be enjoyed while walking around the pond.<br \/>\nIn mid-June, a plant called hangesho reaches its best viewing season.<br \/>\nSome of the leaves have turned white, creating a very refreshing scene.<br \/>\nViewed in the early summer light, it may feel like a dream world.<\/p>\n<p>Spending time in a quiet garden, calming your mind and enjoying nature at your leisure, will be a truly luxurious experience.
