The shrine buildings are colorful replicas, reduced to a two-thirds scale, of the Imperial Court of the Heian period (794-1185).
The vast garden here, behind the shrine, is a fine place for wonder and particularly lovely during the cherry- blossom season. With its large pond, weeping cherry blossom and Chinese-inspired bridge, the garden is a tribute to the style that was popular in the Heian period. It is well-known for 150 double cherry blossoms.

【Information】
Address:
97, Okazaki Nishitenno Cho, Sakyo Ku, Kyoto, 606-8341
Access:
・A 5-minute walk from “Okazaki-koen, Bijyutsukan, Heianjingu mae” bus stop on the Kyoto Bus #5 at Kyoto Station
・A 10-minute walk from “Higashiyama” Sta. on the Subway Tozai line
Time:
8:30~18:00(March 15 to September 30th)
Admission Fee:
Free for the shrine / Garden 600yen per an adult, 300yen per a child

Okazaki Shrine

It takes about 10 minutes to get to Okazaki shrine from Heian Jingu Shrine. Okazaki Shrine has been a place of worship for more than 1,200 years. Though the shrine grounds are relatively small, there are lots of rabbits to be found. It is symbolized as the fertility and people come to pray to the shrine – the god of matchmaking, marriage, and easy childbirth.
The weeping cherry blossom in front of the main hall is amazing.

【Information】
Address:
51, Okazaki Higashitenno Cho, Sakyo Ku, Kyoto, 606-8332
Access:
・A 3-minute walk from “Higashitenno Cho” bus stop on the Kyoto Bus #5 at Kyoto Station
・A 18-minute walk from “Keage” Sta. on the Subway Tozai line
Time:
8:30~17:00
Admission Fee:
Free

Konkaikomyoji Temple

Konkaikomyoji Temple, better known as Kurodani, is a superb and rarely visited (by tourists) temple on Yoshida-Yama Hill, a short walk from the Path of Philosophy or a 1-minute walk from the Okazaki shrine. This shrine is a so-called hidden spot because it’s off the main Northern Higashiyama tourist route. The brilliant cherry blossoms bloom and we’re happy to just see them for a moment and soak the atmosphere.

【Information】
Address:
121, Kurodani Cho, Sakyo Ku, Kyoto, 606-8331
Access:
・A 5-minute walk from “Higashitenno Cho” bus stop on the Kyoto Bus #5 at Kyoto Station
・A 19-minute walk from “Keage” Sta. on the Subway Tozai line
Time:
9:00~16:00
Admission Fee:
Free

Shinyodo Temple

You can navigate some narrow lanes going north from the pagoda in Konkaikomyoji Temple, past lovely little Saiunin Subtemple to come out behind the main hall of the superb Shinyo-do Temple.
