{"id":3083,"date":"2020-01-16T15:05:31","date_gmt":"2020-01-16T06:05:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kyonaka-gozan.kyoto\/koi\/?p=3083"},"modified":"2020-01-16T15:05:42","modified_gmt":"2020-01-16T06:05:42","slug":"vol89","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kyonaka-gozan.kyoto\/koi\/en\/event\/vol89\/","title":{"rendered":"vol.89:Shono Shinji \/ Bonfire Festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Related to the many purification rituals are held after the New Year, Shono Shinji is held at Iwashimizu Hachimangu shrine in southern Kyoto.<\/p>\n<p>People gather New Year\u2019s ornaments in order to burn them in a big bonfire.<br \/>\n It is believed that spirits of the new year are supposed to go home with the smoke of this fire.<\/p>\n<h5 class=\"style5b\">What\u2019s Shono Shinji at Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine?<\/h5>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/kyonaka-gozan.kyoto\/media\/koi\/sites\/10\/20200115-0-300x153.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"153\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3078\" \/><br \/>\nShono Shinjil is held at Iwashimizu Hachimangu shrine over a five-day period from January 15th to the 19th.<br \/>\nIf you attend a Shono Shinji in Japan, you\u2019ll find people are trying to get a rice cake baked by fire in the hopes of receiving a blessing.<br \/>\nStarting off with a sacred fire held by the priests, the priests lit a fire on a tower of offering which is made of many used fortune charms.<br \/>\nPriests recite a Shinto prayer and a sacred kagura dance is performed by  a shrine maiden.<br \/>\n1,500 rice cakes baked by this bonfire are passed out in the crowd, so any attendee can join in wishing for everyone\u2019s good health and fortune.<\/p>\n<h5 class=\"style5b\">What to Buy at Iwashimizu Hachimangu<\/h5>\n<h4 class=\"style4a\">Hashirii Rice Cake<\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/kyonaka-gozan.kyoto\/media\/koi\/sites\/10\/20200115-2-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3077\" \/><br \/>\nTry a rectangle shaped traditional rice cake made with a red bean paste center inside a steamed rice cake.<br \/>\nIt is said Sanjo Kokajimunechika , a swordsmith who is called a master craftsman of sword,forged a sword with pure water in Hashirii, Ostu.<br \/>\nThen it is believed that it protect you against the misfortune if you have Hashirii rice cake.<br \/>\nThe story and history are passed down the Iwashimizu, Yawata city, and now it is famous as the speciality of this shrine.<br \/>\nThe store is open on holidays and a event day.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4a\">Omiya Arrow<\/h4>\n<p>Literally, \u201cGod Arrow\u201d, a decorative arrow sold at shrine to ward off misfortune and to attract good luck.<br \/>\nIt is said a god break a demon with an arrow so people set it by a family altar to the kimon (the direction of thought particularly susceptible to evil influences).<br \/>\nIwashimizu Hachimangu shrine is famous for the power to ward off misfortune,so this shrine has been awarded as &#8220;Obuda&#8221; for the eradication of evil, victory, safety in the home, and thriving business, with the reverence of Yahata Okami.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4a\">Information<\/h4>\n<p>The Event Day &amp;Time:<br \/>\nJanuary 19th, 2020\/ 10:00~<br \/>\nAddress:<br \/>\n30,Yawata Takabo, Yawata City, Kyoto 614-8588<br \/>\nAccess:<br \/>\nPlease change at \u201cIwashimizu Hachimangu\u201d Sta. on the Keihan line to \u201cHachimangu guchi\u201dSta. on the cable railway.
