{"id":2298,"date":"2019-05-30T12:03:20","date_gmt":"2019-05-30T03:03:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kyonaka-gozan.kyoto\/koi\/?p=2298"},"modified":"2019-05-30T10:33:39","modified_gmt":"2019-05-30T01:33:39","slug":"vol55","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kyonaka-gozan.kyoto\/koi\/en\/local\/vol55\/","title":{"rendered":"vol55:Fireflies put on those spectacular summer display in Kyoto"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Have you ever seen fireflies in Kyoto?<br \/>\nThe image of flying fireflies is typical summer night for Japanese.<br \/>\nThey usually inhabit only near the clean stream so it gets hard to see them these days.<br \/>\nHowever Kyoto is exceptional!<br \/>\nYou can enjoy to see blinking light even stay in the city.<br \/>\nFireflies fly from June to the early July, especially around the end of June.<br \/>\nIt is the good time to see them from sunset to 8:00 p.m.<br \/>\nThe number of them get fallen over 9:00 p.m.<br \/>\nThis time we\u2019d like to share about the culture of fireflies.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4a\">Japanese adore insects and bugs<\/h4>\n<p>Needless to say, bug haters are everywhere in the world including Japan, but there\u2019s another<br \/>\nside of Japanese culture where we actually adore insects and bugs.<br \/>\nGuess how much we adore insects.<br \/>\nFor typical Japanese summer holiday fun, boys go into the bush to catch crickets and beetles to<br \/>\nbring them home as pets.<br \/>\nOn Internet auction sites, some rare beetles and stag beetles are priced from about 800 dollars<br \/>\nto sometimes 2.5 million dollars!<br \/>\nEven though adult insect collectors most often buy these bugs, beetles and stag beetles enchant<br \/>\nboth the young and old. (Mothers often hope that these bugs will not become permanent<br \/>\nresidents in their houses)<br \/>\nNot only for boys and men, for most Japanese, summer hasn&#8217;t officially begun until the songs<br \/>\nof the cicadas are heard.<br \/>\nNeither has begun without song of the bell crickets.<br \/>\nJapanese people enjoy insect noises as \u201csoothing\u201d or \u201ccomfortable\u201d in their culture.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4a\">Fireflies in Japan<\/h4>\n<p>Often described in Japanese literature and used in song themes imitating of a soul out from a<br \/>\nbody or the image of love because of their beautiful light.<br \/>\nOne researcher said there is a story those who perished became fireflies, so for Japanese,<br \/>\nfireflies are cultural insects for both people\u2019s memories and records.<br \/>\nWe thought people at that time sympathized easily because fireflies inhabited near the village<br \/>\nsame as butterflies and dragonflies.<br \/>\nHowever, today, more than just firefly &#8220;watching&#8221; has been harming.<br \/>\nPollution and urban development are a big threat to these luminescent insects,added to the new<br \/>\nbusiness of reselling fireflies for private gardens in hotels and restaurants.<br \/>\nIt might be a good chance to see them if you have chance to see.<\/p>\n<h5 class=\"style5b\">3 Good Spot to See Fireflies in Kyoto<\/h5>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/kyonaka-gozan.kyoto\/media\/koi\/sites\/10\/20190530-1-1-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2296\" \/><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4a\">1.The Path of Philosophy<\/h4>\n<p>The Path of Philosophy is well known for watching cherry blossoms though, it is easy to access<br \/>\nlocation for visitors.
