{"id":2147,"date":"2019-04-16T13:39:16","date_gmt":"2019-04-16T04:39:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kyonaka-gozan.kyoto\/koi\/?p=2147"},"modified":"2019-04-24T07:35:40","modified_gmt":"2019-04-23T22:35:40","slug":"vol49","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kyonaka-gozan.kyoto\/koi\/en\/local\/vol49\/","title":{"rendered":"vol.49\uff1aMidnight Nenbutsu Memorial Service at Chion-in Temple\uff08April 18,19\uff09"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Midnight Nenbutsu (Chanting Sutra) is a part of Gyoki Daie.<br \/>\nGyoki Daie is the largest and most important service held at Chion-in.<br \/>\nDuring the service, various events are held, such as flower-offering ceremony, music ervices, a ho-jo-e (a ceremony in which fish, insects and birds are set free, symbolizing Buddhism\u2019s prohibition against killing) and chanting the nembutsu at midnight.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nMidnight Nenbutsu has last for 22 years.<br \/>\nYou won\u2019t forget the name, will you?<br \/>\nIt\u2019s held on the top of Sanmon that is the national treasure from 8:00 p.m to 7:00 a.m.<br \/>\nThe participants are mainly Parishioner believers though, the number of young ages, ouples, and friends has increased these days.<br \/>\n 1800 people took participate in the Midnight Nenbutsu a certain year.<br \/>\nIt was a highest number ever, so people had had to wait for entering Sanmon for 1 hour even over the midnight.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nIt\u2019s good for tourist not to need the admission fee and any application.<br \/>\nIf you are interested in this event, don\u2019t hesitate to join in.<br \/>\nOf Course, it\u2019s a quite important ritual for Chion-in temple.<br \/>\nParticipants must pay their respect to them.<br \/>\nThis kind of opportunity is rare and it\u2019s for beginners.<br \/>\nMidnight Nenbutsu will be a great experience for you.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/kyonaka-gozan.kyoto\/media\/koi\/sites\/10\/20190416_2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2144\" \/><br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4a\">What to see?<\/h4>\n<p>There are two good point to see for Midnight Nenbutsu.<br \/>\nFirst one is the venue.<br \/>\nThe venue is on the top of Sanmon, usually closed to public.<br \/>\n It has a height of about 24 meters, a width of about 50 meters, and about 70,000 roof tiles.
